 The excellence of our research plays a key role in the funding we receive. The sustained support of public and private granting agencies enables our scientists and students to produce outstanding work, year after year. Financial contributions take various forms: operating grants to the Institute, investigator salary support and grants to cover specific activities. Research chairs involve substantial financial support. The Canada Research Chairs Program gives Canadian universities, research institutes and affiliated hospitals an opportunity to achieve excellence in research and become world-class research centres in the knowledge economy. Government agencies and bodies provide indispensable funding for research activities at the Institute. For the most part, funds are awarded on the recommendation of peer-review committees, thereby benefiting not only researchers but also the students and postdoctoral students who belong to their teams.
