All investigators at the LDI have a university appointment, as well as peer reviewed funding from external agencies. A large number of postgraduate students and postdoctoral fellows receive their research training for the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees under the supervision of our Staff Investigators and Project Directors. In 2005-2006 there were 551 publications in peer reviewed scientific journals as well as a very large number of abstracts, presentations at meetings, and book chapters. Our physicians and scientists have been invited to serve on a wide array of committees throughout the world, including those of the National Institutes of Health (USA), Canadian Institutes for Health Research, National Cancer Institute of Canada, Canadian Foundation for AIDS Research and the World Health Organization among many others.
Many physicians and scientists from other countries choose the Lady Davis Institute / Jewish General Hospital as a venue for sabbaticals from other institutions, giving further proof to the notion that we are highly regarded and competitive in a wide array of disciplines. We also serve as an important training ground for new scientists and are proud of the fact that over 175 students are currently working towards either M.Sc. or Ph.D. degrees on our premises and that we host over 100 post-doctoral fellows, including visiting scientists from throughout the world at this time. We are proud to represent the Jewish General Hospital in regard to outstanding academic achievement, and, at the same time, are proud of our association with McGill University and the fact that all of our staff members hold academic appointments within appropriate University departments. We are confident that completion of the construction now underway will enable us to build on past success toward ensuring that our Hospital continues to play an outstanding academic role McGill University for many years to come.
